88.7 The Pulse (KVIT) Featured in National Article on Gen Z’s Role in the Future of Radio

We’re excited to share that 88.7 The Pulse, the student-run FM radio station at the East Valley Institute of Technology (EVIT) in Mesa, Arizona, has been featured in a national article on Current.org.

Titled “With Boost from High School Programs, Gen Z is Heading to Public Radio” and written by journalist Chris Thomas, the story highlights how high school radio stations are preparing the next generation of broadcasters—and how our students are gaining real-world experience in live sports broadcasting, production, and engineering.

As a 15,000-watt non-commercial station, 88.7 The Pulse serves as a fully operational teaching lab for EVIT’s Radio/Audio Production program. Our mission is to educate, inspire, and empower the next generation of media professionals through hands-on training that mirrors a real broadcast environment.

Current is the leading nonprofit news organization covering public media in the U.S., relied upon by professionals at NPR, PBS, CPB, local stations, independent producers, and policymakers for news, insights, and inspiration in this mission-driven industry.

We’re honored to be recognized alongside other standout high school programs from across the country.
