Breaking Barriers: A Conversation with Rising Wrestling Star Zamaya

Author: Lance Reece

Zamaya, originally from Globe, Arizona, is turning heads in the wrestling world with her unique look, unmatched drive, and undeniable talent. She began her wrestling journey just two years ago, training at the Phoenix-based TrainInAZ wrestling school, founded by local legend Dom Vitalli. Since then, her career has taken off. Currently, she’s the reigning ULTRAWOMAN Champion for Phoenix Championship Wrestling, and her skills have led her to compete not only across the U.S. but internationally, including in Canada.

Her hard work and dedication have not gone unnoticed. In 2024, Zamaya earned a spot at #226 on Pro Wrestling Illustrated’s Top 250 Women Athletes—a major milestone for her growing career.

During our conversation, I asked Zamaya what advice she’d give to women interested in starting their own wrestling careers. Her words were inspiring:

“The advice that I would give is, ultimately, believe in yourself. Professional wrestling is a male-dominated sport. At the end of the day, you just have to understand that things will get tough, especially when you first start, and you get hit for the first time. But you have to understand that women’s professional wrestling is continuously changing and evolving. As long as we all believe in ourselves and continue to push, push, push, and knock down that door, it’s going to be a beautiful thing.”

Zamaya’s story is a testament to perseverance, passion, and breaking barriers in a traditionally male-dominated industry. With Phoenix Championship Wrestling’s reputation for producing future stars, Zamaya is poised to make an even bigger impact on the wrestling world. The future of women’s wrestling looks brighter because of athletes like her.
