Honoring History: EVIT Criminal Justice Students Present 9/11 Remembrance Projects

The criminal justice students, both first and second years, created presentations in honor of remembrance of 9/11. The presentations displayed the information on the catastrophic event itself, the way different departments responded in the immediate aftermath, and the long term effects on government, emergency response, and law enforcement. Students had worked with groups to make a poster of display in which they had an open house to present to other programs throughout EVIT.
First-Year Students Cover the Fundamentals
First year students focused more on the basic information as to what happened that day, the responders they had in response to the event, and whether it was local or immediate responders. While interviewing some of the first years, we asked questions about what they chose to present.
PM 1st year student Sofia presented with a group, where we learned about which responders came to the event and how they handled the situation. We felt the strong impact of her presentation through her detailed poster and words, describing what the responders at the time felt as the event happened.
Some other students worked solo instead of in a group, such as a PM student named Rayni Nichole. She presented her poster and taught us the general events of 9/11 and some of the basic facts as to what the event was and what happened during it. She cited several eyewitnesses and had several sources on her poster as well as pictures with summaries and little facts, pleasantly surprising us with the amount of attention to detail she put into her project.
Both 1st years and second year students were given different topics to discuss, however 1st years were just given the general outline of their subject, while 2nd years had to go more in depth and understand the topics a bit more, highlighting every effect.
Second-Year Students Dive Deeper
Second year students were given similar assignments to the first years but they were instructed to research deeper and learn a bit more. Several did the overall event of 9/11 while they educated us on the interesting statistics, and names, and eyewitness testimonies in their presentations.
We loved how the students who had more specific assignments appeared to have gone on a deep dive into the subject. Subjects included: Flight 77, Flight 93, Law Enforcement immediate response and long term effects, and FAA and NORAD immediate response and long term effects. We sadly were unable to get the names of the students we interviewed, but were incredibly impressed by the detail and knowledge they put in.
We learned about both the small and large effects of the tragic attacks on 9/11, and the importance of each action taken. The projects were well organized and powerful, managing to successfully teach us everything they meant to.
