Students and alumni from 88.7 The Pulse (KVIT-FM) made a major splash in New York City this week. Representing the East Valley Institute of Technology (EVIT), the team brought home four national titles at the 2025–2026 Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS) High School Media Awards.
The ceremony, held on February 20, recognized the very best in student led media from across the globe.
Celebrating Our National Winners
From sports desk reporting to station leadership, Pulse students stood out in a field of over 3,000 entries.
- Kairis Boyles (EVIT Senior): Won Best Sports Update. This award marks another milestone for Kairis, one of our most dedicated on air personalities.
- Matthew Cavazos (EVIT ’25): Won Best Sports Talk Program for Pulse Sports Triple Play.
- Lenore Carey & Julia Garner (Mesquite ’25): Won Best Public Affairs Program for their deep dive into Alice Cooper’s Solid Rock Teen Center on The Public Pulse.
- Brandon Neyenhuis (EVIT ’25): Named Best Student Program Director, a prestigious honor recognizing his technical skill and station leadership.
A Record Breaking Debut
This was the first year EVIT students entered the IBS High School Media Awards, and the results were historic. Out of 100 high schools worldwide, our students secured 16 total nominations across various categories.
The IBS has been a pillar of student broadcasting since 1940, making these wins a significant achievement for our program and the Mesa community.
