Noise Floor
Noise Floor is a monthly blog post for 88.7 the pulse, where I look into my favorite alternative albums and write about what makes me love them! Feel free to recommend your own directly to me at NoiseFloor4@gmail.com and you might just see your favorite get the attention it deserves.

Album Overview
Deep fantasy is a 22 minute long album by White lung, a Canadian punk band. The album released in 2014, in the middle of their career from 2006-2022. My favorite part of the album is all the guitar riffs, each having its own signature bite. Finding influence from the riot grrrl scene, each song is filled with unmistakable emotion that can be harder to express through more mainstream genres.
The Rolling Stone listed it at number 38 on “The 40 Greatest Punk Albums of All-Time” in 2016. The album has otherwise not received any notable awards or list placements.

Down it Goes
One of my favorite songs on the album is Down It Goes. I love the really bright riffs that lead the song, especially the verse riff. The guitar, drums, and vocals all work in tandem to make sure the song never stops. Even in the refrain the bridge provides, the drums keep in the fast tempo of the song.

Face Down
Face Down is the most popular song by White Lung, and not without reason either. While other songs I may prefer their riffs or drums or vocals more, this song has the best overall arrangement. The synergy between each part is phenomenal. This is the song that let me find the band and therefore lead me to reviewing the album today.
Drown With the Monster
Drown With The Monster kick starts the album, with a much darker riff than most the other songs, with the high parts that do exist having a much more screechy nature. I like the different tone this song provides and is the most unique on the album. It has a very strong tension building bridge which to me is the highlight of the song.

Sycophant
Sycophant is interesting to me from how metal the verse riff sounds. Just shows how related all alternative genres are. Those low rhythmic chugs can provide so much power into a song and this is a great example of that. Complemented with the bands signature high licks creates a very dynamic riff across several octaves that sounds unlike almost anything I’ve heard in punk music.
Rewind and Review
White Lung’s Deep Fantasy is an album I’d recommend to anyone looking for more punk music. The album’s short length also makes it great if you’re new to listening to albums as a whole instead of as individual songs.
While I think each of their songs are a little samey, they as a collective sound very different from any other artist I’ve listened to. This uniqueness makes me always come back to a song from this album rather frequently.
Wild Card | In Your Home
In my opinion this album that especially stands out from another, but today’s wild card pick will be In Your Home. The slower tempo and and less aggressive riff provides a different feel. While most the songs echo a feeling of rage, I find this song to have a more mournful tone. I find a little emo influence in this one, though it may be a stretch. Its the perfect song to end the album and the perfect song to end this article.
