Baby Keem is the cousin of famous rapper Kendrick Lamar and he made a name for himself in the rap community very quickly. Many listeners were introduced to Baby Keem through the 2018 Black Panther movie soundtrack when spotted next to Kendrick’s name in the credits of a song in the soundtrack. This pushed the people to check out Baby Keem’s own music and they loved it.
Later on, Baby Keem would release his first studio album that would do exceptionally well landing at the top 5 spot in Billboard’s Top 200 while two songs from that album would make it into Billboard’s Hot 100. This left people wanting more from Baby Keem, and while he would release seven new songs one year later, he disappeared. Nothing would be posted to his social media and excluding the song he released with Kendrick in 2023, no new music would come out any time soon.
The Shadow Cast on Rap While Absent
After his performance at Camp Flog Gnaw in 2023 Baby Keem disappeared completely. His absence was noticed very quickly when Kendrick Lamar would get into a rap feud with Drake and Baby Keem was nowhere to be seen. Many thought Keem would defend his cousin in this feud but he stayed dead silent.
At the end of 2024, Tyler, The Creator would release his own album ‘CHROMAKOPIA’ where Baby Keem was heard on a song for the album. While some thought this was the beginning of Baby Keem’s return, it was later found out that this was just his voice being used as a sample for the song and not an actual feature from Baby Keem.
Baby Keem Teases His Long Awaited Return
In 2025, Baby Keem would make a rare appearance on Instagram to tease new music. Over a couple of days he would post snippets of new music or texts of him discussing his new music. This built hype and excited many Baby Keem fans but nothing would come out of it for a long time. On February 10th, 2026, Baby Keem would break his 3 year silence by announcing a brand new studio album named Ca$ino. He would also release one part of a three part documentary produced by him about his life as a child. At this point, it had been almost 5 years since his last album so many were excited to finally be receiving a new album from the rapper and he would soon announce a tour and a listening party for the album right before it was released.
Baby Keem Explains Why He Was Gone For Long
Baby Keem would host his listening party for the album and talk to the audience while performing his new album. Ca$ino told listeners about Keem’s life as a child and the things he’s had to deal with in his life. The album was very personal and while performing, Keem said that he felt like it would be unfair for him to act like he never left.
Keem would go on to reveal Ca$ino was supposed to be named after his mother but the name changed when he realized that would be unfair to the other people who helped raise him. He would then tell the crowd that he’s been going through his own problems in his life such as his mother leaving rehab and receiving a call about it right after he left the stage of Coachella at his last performance.
Keem would also say that this album was meant for the kid who has a completely different life at home when they come back from hanging out with their friends or school. The point of telling the audience these things was not only to let them know why he was gone for so long, but also to let people know that everybody goes through something. Baby Keem has always been an open person, so to see this transparency from Baby Keem was a nice reminder that he’s back.
What’s Next for Baby Keem?
Baby Keem’s Ca$ino released on February 20th, 2026 and people loved it. This album provides a new sound on songs like ‘Dramatic Girl’ with Che Ecru that has an alternative indie rock sound and other songs like ‘I am not a lyricist’ that many relate to André 3000 because of Keem’s voice and flow.
After Ca$ino released, Baby Keem went to multiple different Zia Records locations to sign records of the new album. He’d even explain his absence further and answer other questions fans had such as his appearance on Tyler, The Creator’s CHROMAKOPIA. Baby Keem is set to go on tour starting in May of 2026 and everyone is excited to see what Baby Keem will do next.
